Reboot, a network for Jewish innovation, is seeking a Bookkeeper to provide financial assistance for this small but growing non-profit with multiple offices across the U.S.

Founded in 2000 by two change-oriented Jewish foundations and incorporated in 2003 as an independent nonprofit, Reboot supports an emergent network of diverse, influential individuals or Rebooters who are questioning, exploring, and redefining Jewish identity and community on their own terms. Participants in Reboot are largely creative professionals with both the interest and potential to generate new Jewish content.

Reboot fosters collaborations that create books, records, films, salons, events, and other organizing strategies to engage young Jews, the larger Jewish community, and the world. Reboot’s annual summits and ongoing projects have attracted some of North America’s brightest young thinkers, creatives, theologians, and activists.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Maintain chart of accounts
  • Process and reconcile A/P and A/R transactions
  • Prepare monthly closings and compile financial statements for five entities
  • Prepare tax deposits and filings
  • Maintain company files and Board of Directors correspondence
  • Reconcile bank statements
  • Compile budget variance reports
  • Assist with annual budget process.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with the following traits and experience:

  • Associates degree; Bachelors preferred
  • 2 years experience as a full charge bookkeeper
  • Excellent Quickbooks Edition 8 knowledge
  • PC competence (MS Outlook, Word, Excel) and internet-savvy
  • Crystal Reports software knowledge a plus
  • An ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high energy environment
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a decentralized culture
  • A sense of humor

American Friends of The Open University of Israel (AFOUI) is seeking a Development Assistant for our New York office.

AFOUI was established to provide higher education to adults in Israel.

This is an entry-level position. In addition to assisting the Director with foundation research and grant proposal writing, the candidate will be responsible for day-to-day office operations, including drafting letters and correspondence, overseeing all incoming donations and logging them in a database, reporting regularly on incoming funds, planning meetings, staffing special events, planning young leadership events, researching donor prospects, providing marketing support, and other general office management tasks.

This position is a perfect opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in the non-profit sector. Our New York office has a small staff, which allows flexibility and offers the potential for involvement in most aspects of non-profit operation. Hofstra University invites applications and nominations for a full-time, junior-level tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Jewish Studies.

Area of specialization may be in Bible, Rabbinic literature, or other genres of pre-modern Judaism, but the successful candidate will have the ability to teach across the spectrum of the Jewish textual tradition. The appointment will be made in the Department of Religion and will begin in the Fall of 2009. Teaching load is three undergraduate courses per semester, both survey and advanced.

The department seeks candidates at home within a dynamic and rapidly expanding Department of Religion, and who possess the vision and leadership skills necessary to help develop Jewish Studies at Hofstra.

Applications should include a letter of application, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, sample of scholarly research, and, if available, sample syllabi and evidence of excellence in teaching.

The department expects to hold prearranged interviews at the annual meetings of the American Academy of Religion, the Association for Jewish Studies, and the Society of Biblical Literature.

Seeking intelligent, articulate, resourceful and detail-oriented person to fill an Executive Assistant/Events Administrator position at a well-established Jewish non-profit. Responsibilities would include supporting a team of Fundraising Directors while also participating in all aspects of event planning and donor relations. The position requires a talent for problem solving, the ability to multi-task and extremely strong verbal communication skills. In addition to strong writing and editing skills, excellent facility with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are also essential. A high-level of computer skills is a non-negotiable requirement of this job.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create, edit, and proofread documents, including proposals, general correspondence and informational materials (including PowerPoint presentations);
  • Event planning and coordination of event mailings; (dinners, concerts, parlor meetings, etc.)
  • Screening and responding to calls, correspondence and other informational requests;
  • Perform basic prospect and foundation research utilizing the Internet, phone and other sources;
  • Other duties as needed.

Additional Qualifications:

B.A; non-profit or volunteer experience a plus. Successful candidate must be exceedingly well-organized, personable, outgoing, persistent, discreet, and diplomatic with excellent computer, writing, and social skills. Basic knowledge of Hebrew required.

Beit Rabban, a unique Jewish day school on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, seeks an Administrative Assistant to support the school’s administration and perform advanced operational tasks. Responsibilities include assisting Administrators with daily tasks, front office communications, and office management. The Administrative Assistant will serve as one of the school’s frontline staff for all communications with parents, prospective parents and community members. He/she will also serve as the school’s Health Clerk by maintaining health records of all students and recording daily medical logs.

The successful candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented, self-starter who responds effectively to the challenge of working in a busy school environment. There is currently a vacancy for a market analyst within the Enterprise Content Corporate Actions Team covering the Israeli market. The role involves the analysis of Financial News to source Corporate Actions, upload these events onto Thomson Reuters financial products in a timely and accurate manner. The role requires Hebrew and English language skills, and is based in the new York office. The role involves working closely with the Exchange and information providers, Thomson Reuters Internal teams and responding to client queries.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the database with timely updates to existing data.
  • Perform Quality Checks to ensure the accuracy of the database
  • Initiate new methods of working and ways to improve data and service provided to clients
  • Understand Thomson Reuters products to provide a higher degree of service and better data to the client
  • Build relations with our suppliers to ensure optimal service delivery to our end-users
  • Ensure that the relevant database administration procedures are maintained and adhered to and that all processes are documented
  • Provide prompt and effective response to customer needs and take ownership of the resolution process for all customer related issues

Required Skills, Knowledge and Education:

  • At least a Bachelors Degree in Commerce, Business Management or a related Analytical field.
  • Fluent written and spoken Hebrew and English language skills.
  • Ability to work in a time sensitive environment with a keen eye for detail
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Financial Markets and their operations
  • Excellent Written and Oral Communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team and to build interpersonal relationships
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, particularly MS Excel
