Comprised of Spiritual Care, Cultural Programming, the Jewish Heritage Museum, the Professional, Creative & Therapeutic Arts, and the Innovation, Technology & Design Lab, the department supports an integrated, inter-professional approach that innovates in all areas to enhance life engagement, intergenerational activities, lifelong learning, cultural/spiritual programs and design/development work. With the support of this department, the Director, Spiritual Care will be empowered to explore and define innovative opportunities and to implement next practices in the area of spiritual care.
Reporting to the Director, Culture, Arts and Innovation and with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Director, Health Disciplines, and working collaboratively with staff, physicians, students, volunteers, Senior Chaplain Emeritus and members of the senior leadership team, the Director, Spiritual Care will ensure alignment between corporate and program strategic and operational priorities and is responsible for providing religious and spiritual support to residents, clients, families, healthcare professionals, Baycrest staff, volunteers, and visitors of all faiths.
The Director, Spiritual Care will play a critical role, representing the core Jewish identity of Baycrest, working in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Arts and Innovation and with the Coordinator of Cultural/Spiritual Programs to assist in the planning and the provision of religious/spiritual client and family programming. He/she will need to be flexible, adaptable, resilient and durable, able to shift paths and tasks frequently while maintaining calm. The Director, Spiritual Care will recruit, hire, train and develop additional Spiritual Care staff as required and will work closely with the student programs, and with the families, residents and clients at Baycrest to ensure all are properly served. Additionally, the Director, Spiritual Care will act as a member of the Culture and Heritage working committee.
Critical to success in the role will be his/her communication, relationship building, peaceful conflict resolution, mediation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively mobilize and influence a culturally diverse group of key internal and external stakeholders, and act as a positive and visible member of the community, and ensuring translation of Judaic principles into day-to-day life at Baycrest. The successful candidate will be plugged into the full care continuum including hospital, long-term care, and supported living settings, utilizing his/her expertise to address the needs of both Jewish and non-Jewish constituents. He/she is wise, and insightful, and possesses the capacity to effectively negotiate and advocate for resources and enhance the formal mechanisms of spiritual care, including but not limited to program evaluation, administrative leadership, and supervision of students.
The ideal candidate possesses 5-10 years of experience gained providing spiritual care and healthcare services, with experience in a leadership capacity. He/she possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters Degree in Theology or equivalent from an accredited Rabbinic Seminary. He/she has successfully attained smicha from an accredited Rabbinic Seminary and is certified (or soon to be so) as Teaching Supervisor within the Clinical Pastoral Education (‘CPE’) or Pastoral Counseling Education (‘PCE’) stream, and is a member in good standing in the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (‘CASC’), or equivalent. Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to become a member of the Ontario College of Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Mental Health Therapists. Ideally, the Director, Spiritual Care brings previous experience in a Not-for-Profit organization, including a complex health care facility (Hospital and/or Long-Term Care facility) or leading a religious congregation.

Do you like children? Our program offers age-appropriate group music classes for kids starting at 4 months up to 5 years. We have manageable 40-minute classes of up to 12 children.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
We are seeking a Hebrew-speaking teacher/singer to lead music class sing-alongs for our preschool group. Applicants must have vocal training/experience: able to run 2-4 classes consecutively and project their voice without microphone. Knowledge of child-appropriate Hebrew songs desired.
Ability to play music instrument(s) a big plus. Training is available. For example:
– Singer-violinist will be trained in wind/brass,
– Singer-flutist will be trained in strings/brass, etc.
