The Learning Center at the Pelham Jewish Center is looking for vibrant and enthusiastic teachers for the third and sixth grade classes, to start immediately. The Pelham Jewish Center is a conservative and egalitarian Jewish congregation, and we believe that Jewish Education takes place everywhere. We are looking for true Jewish role models, passionate about working with children in an informal setting. Knowledge of informal and experiential education and/or Jewish Camping is a plus. Areas of study include: Prayer, Jewish Holidays, Jewish History, Hebrew and Torah. Our school works on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4-6pm. The Pelham Jewish Center is located in Pelham Manor, 20 minutes North of NYC.

Primary Objectives:
The primary objective of the Program Associate will be to work with and assist the Director of Jewish Community Development in planning and implementing the programs of the Resource Center for Jewish Diversity, which include Organizational Development, Educational and Cultural Events, and Community Coordination and Advocacy. The Resource Center for Jewish Diversity seeks to promote greater awareness and inclusiveness of the ethnic, racial and cultural diversity of the Jewish community in New York, by empowering ethnically diverse Jewish community groups throughout the New York area, and helping them acquire the tools and resources to thrive within the broader Jewish community and organizational structure. The Program Associate will also work on related projects within the scope of Jewish Community Development, such as programming at the Y to educate the broader Jewish community about its diversity, programming for the Israeli community in New York and potentially other diverse community segments as well. The Program Associate will be part of a team focusing on different aspects of Jewish community outreach and inclusiveness in a pluralistic context, and will be expected to work collaboratively on other projects within the overall program area as needed.
Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Establish and maintain contacts with diverse Jewish community groups
  • Establish and maintain contacts with local and national Jewish organizations
  • Research additional information on Jewish community groups and subgroups
  • Work on program development
  • Coordinate and attend meetings and keep written records
  • Produce promotional and informational materials
  • Assist in marketing and publicity of the Center and other program initiatives
  • Develop reports and grants
  • Prepare materials and tools for training of Resource Center groups
  • Work collaboratively with lay committees
  • Coordinate with speakers and performers for events
  • Coordinate with training professionals and other experts to assist Resource Center groups
  • Provide support for programming aimed at the Russian-speaking Jewish community
  • Provide support for developing the Partnership Project with Ramat Hasharon in Israel

Qualifications:

  • B.A. (Master’s in Jewish communal work or related field a plus)
  • At least 2 years experience working in the Jewish community and dealing with issues of Jewish diversity or related issues
  • Strong background in Jewish education or related fiield
  • Professional attitude with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Self-starter with ability to multitask
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as needed
  • Experience in conflict mediation and/or informal education a plus
  • Hebrew fluency a plus

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday 9am-6pm with a 1 hour meal break
